Mid-Plains Implements Ltd. of Carberry and Portage la Prairie would like to thank our past and present customers for their support over the last 30 years. We also want to express our sincere gratitude to our employees who, without their dedication, our success would not have been possible.
Mid-Plains was found in 1976 by Don and Muriel McIntosh of Carberry in partnership with Randy Turner also of Carberry. They purchased the equipment business of A.R.Calvert located on the corner of 1st and Main Street in downtown Carberry.
From its modest beginning with four employees it remained in the original location for many years selling machinery and general repairs as was customary for small dealerships at that time. In 1984 Brent Irwin joined the partnership and attained an interest in the business.
The year 1991 was a proud moment in the history for the small company as they moved to a new facility located on the east side of Carberry along Highway #5. The new location provided the space required as the potato industry was quickly expanding and Mid-Plains had become a key supplier of this equipment throughout the province.
In 1996 Fokko Buurma joined the company as a technician and later in 1997 became a shareholder. The potato industry continued to expand and additions were made to both the parts and service areas in the late 90s to handle the new products the company now offered.
A satellite store was opened in Portage la Prairie in November of 1999 with the cooperation of Portage Agri Sales. They provided us with an opportunity and also a temporary location that we used until the summer of 2000 when a new facility was completed. Derek Blight became the new store manager and brought along with him several years of experience in the business.
The business continues to operate today from these two locations in Manitoba with eleven employees and is also a major supplier of potato equipment in the province of Saskatchewan. Mid-Plains holds marketing agreements with two companies from the Netherlands and distributes these products in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.
